A Global Perspective Akzo Nobel Coatings is one of the world’s largest suppliers of protective and decorative coatings – paints, finishes and stains for industrial, professional and do-it-yourself applications. These areas represent 30% of Akzo Nobel’s North American sales.
In Europe the company’s coatings roots go back more than 200 years to the Netherlands where the first Sikkens wood finishes originated.
Akzo Nobel Car Refinishes in North America
The company’s North American roots can be traced back to the early 20th century. Today, Akzo Nobel is a key player in the North American paint and coatings industry with particular strength in the industrial coatings and car refinishes markets.
The Car Refinishes business unit is a leading manufacturer of high quality products for the collision repair industry. The car refinishes organization manufactures and supports three paint brands in North America. These brands include Sikkens the flagship brand, Lesonal that is also a high quality paint that leverages many of the technological benefits of Sikkens without a lot of the extras. Both brands are designed for the traditional collision repair market. In addition there is U-Tech, which is primarily targeted for the commercial and light commercial markets.
The unit’s mission statement “people best at enabling bodyshop profitability" has motivated it to be an industry leader in environmentally friendly products as well as introducing industry firsts such as Mixit computerized color mixing system as well as Acoat selected a business development program for bodyshops which provides a series of educational programs targeted at increasing the efficiency and productivity of collision repair centers.
